painted, in the manner of Johann Gregorius Höroldt, with a panel of seven figures on a terrace within a quatrefoil cartouche edged with lustre sections and issuing gilt, iron-red and purple scrollwork, the plain ground with large flowering branches of indianische Blumen on either side of the handle, below a border of gilt scrolls and flowerheads, the foot and rim with mounts, the hinged cover inset with a Royal portrait medallion celebrating the wedding of Christian V of Denmark and Charlotte Amalie of Hesse-Kassel, with lion and ball thumbpiece, crossed swords mark in blue, silver cover marked for Copenhagen, 1740, maker Joachim Hendrich Dysterdijk (circa 1707-circa 1777), assay master Peter Nicolai v. Haven, month mark for 21 January to 18 February

Cranfield University used non-invasive X-ray fluorescence (XRF) for this lot to screen the green enamel for chromium, which was not detected, a result consistent with 18th century manufacture.
