Isabey was the portraitist of Napoleon and his entourage and was admired and sought after by the aristocracy of the first half of the 19th century. This charming portrait of Madame Félicité Seguin, perhaps still Raffart de Marcilly at the time of its creation, may have been commissioned by her aristocratic family as much as by her husband, a successful industrialist, so sought after was the artist for his miniatures, a technique in which he excelled. His innovative style corresponded perfectly to the aspirations of the time and it is therefore not surprising that a young woman prominent in the society of that period was immortalized by the artist.

Ce charmant portrait de Madame Félicité Seguin, peut-être encore Raffart de Marcilly au moment de sa réalisation, a pu être commandé par sa famille aristocrate autant que par son mari, industriel à succès, tant l’artiste était recherché pour ses miniatures, technique dans laquelle il excellait. Son style innovant correspondait parfaitement aux aspirations de l’époque et il n'est donc pas étonnant qu’une jeune femme en vue dans la société de cette période ait été immortalisée par l'artiste.
