This superb mounted vase was created from a complete covered vase produced in China, probably for export, as its particularly rich decoration was intended more for the Western market. The gilt bronze mounts of this vase can be found on a well-known body of similar pieces:

- A pair in the Munich Residence (1)

- A pair of vases in the Getty Museum (2)

- A pair in the Musée Jacquemart André in Paris (3)

- A pair from the Château de Thoiry, Ader Picard Tajan sale, 15 April 1989, lot 25

- A vase from the sale of the Jacques Doucet collection, 5 to 8 June 1917, lot 209
