Description

Comprising: a black enamelled bangle centering a star set with an old cushion-shaped diamond framed by rose diamonds, suspending a locket accented by rose diamonds, inner circumference approximately 150mm, three small diamonds deficient, fitted case; and a finely engraved bangle of ropetwist design, inner circumference approximately 160mm, inscribed Cajano, 1 Nov 1843, fitted case.

Gold bangle:

Prince Luitpold of Bavaria (1821-1912)

Archduchess Auguste Fernande of Austria-Tuscany, Princess of Bavaria (1825-1864).

Princess Adelgunde of Bavaria, Duchess of Modena (1823-1914)

Princess Therese of Bavaria (1850-1925)

Prince Luitpold of Bavaria (1821-1912) gifted the gold bangle to his wife Archduchess Auguste Fernande of Austria-Tuscany (1825-1864). The inscribed date '1 November 1843' most likely refers to their engagement as the couple was married in 1844. When Auguste Ferdinand passed away in 1864, the bangle was left to her sister-in-law Princess Adelgunde of Bavaria, Duchess of Modena (1823-1914). The latter in turn gifted it to her niece Princess Therese of Bavaria (1850-1925) who was Luitpold and Auguste Ferdinande's daughter.
