His breakout performance was in game 2 of the Western Conference Quarterfinals in 2022, where without Doncic, Brunson led the Mavericks past Jazz with 41 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals to tie the series. After Doncic’s return, the tandem led the Mavericks to the Western Conference Finals, the team’s best finish since 2011.

In the summer of 2022, Brunson joined the New York Knicks and flourished as the starting point guard, putting up career-best averages in points and assists while leading the Knicks to their first playoff series win in a decade.
