This work relates to a canvas in the Oratorio del Crocifisso in the Santuario di Santa Caterina in Fontebranda, Siena, by an unknown artist after a design by Francesco Vanni.¹ The composition was subsequently engraved on at least 10 different occasions by various printmakers, including Giovanni Battista di Lazzaro Panzera da Parma and Cornelis Galle the Elder.
