Description
An Egyptian Aswan Granite Figure of a Man
25th/early 26th Dynasty, circa 750-600 B.C.
inscribed for Inefer, seated with his hands resting on his thighs, a bolt of cloth in his right hand, and wearing a finely pleated kilt with central tab, a mortise on the neck for insertion of a now missing head, the right side of his seat carved in sunk relief with a male and female figure facing right, the inscription adjacent to the first figure reading "his son who carries on his name, the divine father and prophet of Amun in northern Heliopolis, Aatj, son of the divine father Inefer, son of the divine father Imes", the inscription adjacent to the female figure reading "the mistress of the house and musician of Ra-Atum…daughter of the prophet, divine father and governor of Heliopolis, Aatj, son of Tjanefer"; the left side of the seat carved in sunk relief with four seated figures, the first figure with inscription reading "the divine father and prophet of Amun in northern Heliopolis, Aatj," the second with inscription reading "the divine father Inefer"; the identity of the owner of the statue indicated by inscriptions on the belt of the kilt and at his feet: "It is the divine father Inefer", and "It is the divine father Inefer, son of the divine father Imes, son of the divine father Inefer”.
