Follower of Diego Velazquez

The present work is a cropped adaptation of Diego Velazquez's Portrait of King Philip IV of Spain in Brown and Silver at the National Gallery, London (inv. no. NG1129). Dated to circa 1631-1632, that work represents one of most sumptuously attired depictions of the artist's illustrious patron, for whom Velazquez served as court painter.
