Description

After Sir Anthony van Dyck

Portrait of a Woman

oil on canvas

canvas: 26 ⅛ by 19 ¾ in.; 66.4 by 50.2 cm.

framed: 34 by 27 ½ in.; 86.3 by 69.8 cm.

The present work replicates Sir Anthony van Dyck's Portrait of a Woman at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Boston (inv. no. P12n12), executed during the artist's tenure in London between 1635 and 1639. Wearing a string of pearls and fashionable attire, the sitter has at times been identified as a member of the Killegrew family, several of whom sat for Van Dyck.
