Description

Centering a sugarloaf cabochon sapphire stated to weigh 32.71 carats, the blackened mount pavé-set with circular-cut purple sapphires and single-cut diamonds, size 44, sizing beads, signed JAR Paris, maker's mark for L'Atelier de l'Objet, French assay mark for platinum, case stamped JAR.

Accompanied by SSEF report no. 141814, dated 23 September 2024, and no. 49878, dated 12 November 2007, each stating that the sapphire is of Ceylon origin, with no indications of heating.

‘Tiny stones were knitted together, blended like watercolour, surrounding larger stones to make a shimmering three-dimensional picture.’

Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire on JAR for the occasion of the exhibition at the New York Metropolitan Museum of Art in 2013.
