The art of striking mechanisms lies at the core of Audemars Piguet's identity. History records that over half of the 1,625 timepieces crafted between 1882 and 1892 by the brand incorporated a striking mechanisms. Since then, Audemars Piguet has continued to innovate, producing Grande Sonnerie, Petite Sonnerie, and Minute Repeater mechanisms of extraordinary complexity for wristwatches.
In 1892, a significant milestone was reached with the creation of the first-ever minute repeater wristwatch in history. Initially conceived as a ladies' pendant watch, it underwent a transformation into a wristwatch. This pioneering timepiece stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of two Audemars Piguet watchmakers, who delivered the groundbreaking 13-line Lépine movement to Louis Brandt & Frère. Additionally, Audemars Piguet was the first company to develop a skeletonized wristwatch in 1934 and it is a practice they have been perfecting ever since. The current watch embodies both of these skills. Cased in pink gold and made to celebrate the companies 125th anniversary, the watch is engraved ‘Piece Unique 125 ans’ on the case back.
