It is no secret that Sylvester Stallone is credited with bringing the Panerai brand into mainstream consciousness, and during that period of the late 90s and early 2000s Panerai was not the powerhouse brand that we know today. Eventually, the ‘Slytech’ watches were created which featured updated styling cues based on the historic Panerai case shapes – but with new complications and materials. The present lot, Stallone’s personal PAM00202 is one such example. Introduced in 2005, the case is based upon the traditional Luminor but it has been modified to house an automatic chronograph movement with screw down pushers. In emphasis of the ‘Slytech’ moniker, the case is forged of brushed titanium with a stainless-steel bezel. Like others in the series, ‘Slytech’ is printed on the dial, and the solid case back is emblazoned with Stallone’s signature and the words ‘Special Edition Sylvester Stallone’. Stallone’s personal watch hardly displays any signs of use and is offered as a complete set. It is worth noting that the PAM00202 formed the foundation of Stallone’s piece unique, the PAM00269 which is also being offered in this sale. Seldom does one get an opportunity to own the watch of man who played such an integral role in designing it.
