The Patek Philippe reference 5970 is a modern interpretation of what a perpetual calendar chronograph should be, in alignment with the brand's vision. It replaced the popular reference 3970 and was introduced in 2004, remaining in production until 2010. Notably, it was the first watch designed by the current president, Thierry Stern, who aimed to create a timepiece that would appeal to all generations of watch collectors.
The 5970 was the last perpetual calendar chronograph to utilize the Lemania-based caliber, also seen in the 3970. Later, the caliber was replaced by the fully in-house movement of its successor, the reference 5270. As one of the most influential perpetual calendar chronographs from the brand, the dial of the 5970 is rich with signatures, indicators, and a tachymeter, yet achieves a perfectly balanced layout with its spectacular design. This design is inherited from its predecessors, such as the references 1518, 2499, and the 3970.
Often regarded as the bridge between traditional and modern perpetual calendar chronographs from the brand, the present example features a warm pink gold case paired with a sophisticated silvered dial. Its aesthetic appeal would surely attract any collector with discerning taste.
