Richard Mille launched the RM055 in 2012 in collaboration with the PGA Tour winning golfer Bubba Watson. The RM055 is inspired by the RM038 Tourbillon presented the previous year.
Its manual highly skeletonized winding movement is made in grade 5 titanium with a PVT and Tytalit treated baseplate and bridges. These choices are not only aesthetical, they also allow the movement to withstand accelerations of over 500 g’s. Furthermore, the calibre RMUL2 has a variable-inertia balance wheel to ensure reliability in the event of impacts. A particularly useful feature when the watch is worn on a golf course.
The RM055 case has a ATW bezel made from aluminium oxide power tubes injected under a pressure of almost 2000 bars. This process is used to increase the rigidity by 20! Therefore, the watch has an extremely high scratch resistance. After the diamond, it is one of the hardest materials on the planet.
While the standard version was delivered in white, this present lot is part of a highly limited edition of 20 pieces made for the Paris based retailer Dubail that is distinguished by a unique livery. The case and the strap are black and are highlighted by two red touches : one on the crown and the other one in the minute track and signature at 12 o’clock. On the back, a discreet inscription confirms the limited edition of twenty pieces.
Showing strong character and demonstrating the constant research of Richard Mille for the finest materials adapted to the most extreme use, this very rare RM055 Bubba Watson Dubai edition would be an important addition to any collection.
