In 2002, Audemars Piguet released another futuristic iteration on the original Genta Royal Oak design, a step further than the Offshore. Thus the now established “Concept” line was launched. Created to be more organic in shape than existing Royal Oaks, the rounded yet still angular case definitely retains Genta DNA while being avant-garde enough to remain relevant today and appeal to modern audiences.
The ultra-modern design of the watch does not stop with the case. Housed within the watch is the caliber 2896, featuring a tourbillon with spring shaped bridge for added shock resistance as well as dynamograph which regulates torque. In addition to this, the entire movement is also suspended. All of these features contribute to the accuracy of the watch. A final unusual feature of the watch is the function selector, which negates the need for the crown to have multiple setting positions. Instead, by pushing the selector, the user can choose between “winding”, “time setting” and “neutral”.
The present watch belongs to the very first “Concept” series of watches, limited to 150 pieces. Though this line is now established within the Le Brassus maison, the design was both disruptive and eye-catching at the time of release, much like its predecessors.
