The 'Pour le Mérite' name is reserved for some of A. Lange & Söhne’s most intricately engineered watches. The original reference launched alongside the very first collection at the relaunch featured the brand’s first modern ultra-complicated fusée and chain mechanism, a feature that is also contained in the Richard Lange Pour le Mérite.

The fusée and chain is one of the most effective ways of improving the accuracy of a watch. It is a constant force mechanism which compensates for the constantly lowering tension in the mainspring as it winds down from full power by using an extremely miniaturised chain wrapped around a cassette of changing diameter in accordance with the state of winding. The engineering behind such mechanisms is astonishing, with the chain alone containing 636 components measuring only 0.25 mm tall, all hand assembled and is visible through a cut out in the three quarter plate.

The brand’s most classic and formal model family was chosen to pair with such an exquisite movement. The present Richard Lange features blackened solid silver stepped dial, with stark white printed numerals and red accents to finish, giving the watch a true sense of occasion whenever worn on the wrist. Limited to 218 pieces only, collectors can be assured that they will be acquiring one of the most special A. Lange & Söhne watches that the brand has ever produced.
