The end of the 20th century was a totally different time in the field of watchmaking compared to today, and can be considered a transitional period where old practices gave way to new trends, many of which remain dominant today. The brand Audemars Piguet was no different, with much of their production focused on svelte and refined dress watches such as the famous reference 5548 perpetual calendar, before watches such as the Royal Oak and Offshore gained traction and became their top model line.

Hailing from that, reference 25644 abides very much by the style and precedent of models from the past century. Featuring a relatively large case diameter, yet still round, thin and classic in shape, the present watch stands as a reminder of a totally different era for Audemars Piguet, and indeed a different era for watchmaking as a whole.
