Francois-Paul Journe embarked on his career as a clock restorer in France, eventually establishing his own watch manufacture in 1999. His innovative approach to watchmaking and keen sense of design propelled him to become one of the most esteemed independent watchmakers, earning him the prestigious Aiguille d'Or award three times.

One of the flagship models he introduced when launching his brand was the Tourbillon Souverain. This timepiece was groundbreaking as it was the first wristwatch to incorporate a 'remontoir d'égalité' mechanism, which ensured exceptional accuracy by regulating the varying force exerted by the mainspring. In 2004, Francois-Paul Journe introduced the present 'avec Seconde Morte' model, which took the complexity of the movement even further by incorporating a deadbeat seconds system. This achievement showcased his technical prowess and added to the watch's aesthetic appeal.

When winding the watch, the seconds hand moves in a continuous sweeping motion. However, once the power reserve reaches approximately 12 hours, it transitions into an attractive deadbeat seconds display, beautifully complementing the rotating tourbillon carriage. To conserve energy as the power reserve diminishes, the seconds hand reverts to the sweeping motion when the remaining reserve falls below 12 hours.

Recognized with the esteemed Aiguille d'Or award at the Geneva Watchmaking Grand Prix in 2004, the present watch is highly sought-after in the current market.
