On October 14, 1947, Chuck Yeager achieved a groundbreaking feat in aeronautical technology by becoming the first person to surpass the speed of sound while flying his aircraft, the "X1." It was on this momentous day that a connection between Yeager and Rolex was established, as photographs captured him wearing a Rolex watch, although the specific model remains unknown. In subsequent years, Yeager was frequently seen wearing the iconic present reference 16710 with a distinctive red and black "Coke" bezel.
In tribute to this accomplished pilot, the dial is signed in red text above "GMT-Master," featuring Yeager's name. The case back of the watch is also engraved with Yeager's name and two aircrafts, namely the X1 and the P51.
