The Cartier London watch workshop was setup at Ormand House, Roseberry Avenue in East London, 1939. Selling traditional models from the brand such as the Tank or Santos at first, the London Maison would soon start producing their own line of creation starting in the mid 60s. Thanks to Jean-Jacques Cartier, his creativity and boldness would bring about designs such as the Crash. The workshop produced watches up to 1979, after it closed only a handful of watches were produced upon special order.

The present "Tank" was such a creation, hallmarks on it would reveal that it was produced in 1987 in London. Original cases for these London creations would be made by Wright and Davis, after the workshop ceased operation, their case moulds were left behind, therefore Cartier London was still able to produce these watches.

The present watch retains an extraordinary condition, the engraving and hallmarks on the case back still remains very crisp, showcasing the inscription "Cartier London" and the "JC" hallmark which represents Jean-Jacques Cartier. The clasp was also forged and signed by Cartier London, and has a matching number with the case number on the watch. Spectacular and enigmatic, the present example represents one of the rarest treasures for collectors to unearth.
