The Panerai 6152 was a watch that followed the famous 3646 and was introduced in the early 1950s. Like the 3646 before it, G. Panerai & Figlio produced these for the Italian Navy, and were not intended for civilian use. Building upon the foundation of the 3646, the wire lugs were now replaced by larger beefy lugs, and the crown was now fitted closer to the case.
Early 6152 watches did not feature the distinctive crown locking mechanism that would go on to become a hallmark of the Panerai brand, but that iconic signature is affixed to the case of this example and marked ‘BREV. ITAL.’ to denote its patent pending status. To date, not more than approximately 74 Panerai 6152-1 examples with crown guard and Rolex movement are known.
Further increasing interest with this stunning example is that our case back has been engraved to the Italian Navy with an individual case back MM 014 – for Marina Militare. With its Rolex movement and case, this is another fascinating Panerai from the Cold War era, and a piece of history from the famous Italian military brand.
