Jue vessels of this earliest type from the Erlitou period, which is often identified with the Xia dynasty, are extremely rare. This is a particularly fine example of this slender and elegant form. See a very similar jue, excavated at the Erlitou-type site, Yanshi, Henan province and now in the Henan Provincial Museum of the Shang City at Yanshi, illustrated in Zhongguo qingtongqi quanji, vol. 1, Beijing, 1996, pl. 7. See also another Erlitou jue of closely related form sold in these rooms, 31st March-1st April 2005, lot 146.
