These chairs are part of a set possibly made for Thomas Gibbons (1757-1826) of Elizabethtown, New Jersey. Four chairs from the set is in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum (acc. nos. 62.3.1, 62.3.2, 62.3.3, and 62.3.4) (see Donald C.
