rectangular with rounded corners, the lid inlaid with an engraved equestrian and two other knights in armour, near a flower admired by another person on the left, leaning against a tree, an architectural capriccio in the background, framed by a gold band of putti and birds picking fruit within scrollwork rocailles in piqué posé and piqué point flowers and leaves emerging from classical vases resting on scrolling supports, further scrollwork border alternating with mother of pearl ovals, the base inlaid with a gold classical bust to sinister within rocailles and scrolling frame, gilt hinges
