Description

of upright rectangular form, each side centred with an oval en grisaille miniature with classical subjects, signed J.J. De Gault to lower right, in a gold frame decorated with opaque white enamel beads alternating with green ovolos, on a purple translucent enamel ground over reeded and pellet engine-turning, within gold borders picked out in blue, green and white enamel, the lid later applied with rose-cut diamond-set lettering reading ‘Souvenir’ and ‘D’amitié’ on the reverse, diamond pushpiece, rubbed maker’s mark and charge marks, Paris date letter
