A fine late 17th or early 18th century carved and undercut giltwood frame, probably Roman
compound profile; with clasps at the back edge; with a flowering vine along the top edge; the whole moulding between back and sight edge held in a centered trompe l'oeil spiral of elongated acanthus leaves which seem to spring from the alternating sunflowers or groups of florets at the corners, and terminate where sprays of flowers mark the centres; with finely-cut acanthus leaves and buds at the sight edge; the whole re-gilded
