In 2011, Patek Philippe presented during Basel fair the Reference 5270, meant to replace reference 5970 and marking a huge milestone for the Swiss brand. Indeed, it incorporated their first perpetual chronograph to be fully in-house designed and manufactured, and consequentially marking the end of Patek Philippe using and modifying movements from third manufacturers. The dial configuration was also modified by moving the leap year indicator from the subsidiary dial to a more legible location between the 4 and 5 o'clock markers and a mirroring window between 7 and 8 o'clock now contained the day and night indicator.
This reference has become highly collectible, especially in platinum, the noblest metal. This lot has the '014' dial code, referring to the green dial with black gradient rim. That version was presented in 2022 at Watches&Wonders. This gorgeous livery provides a contemporary feel to the most iconic and famous model of Patek Philippe: the perpetual calendar and chronograph wristwatch, that started with the reference 1518 in 1941.
