Taking inspiration from Formula 1, Richard Mille constantly pushes the boundaries of materials and technical innovation. The RM50-01 not only takes inspiration from F1, but was designed with former F1, and current IndyCar, driver Romain Grosjean. At the time, Grosjean was a member of the Lotus F1 Racing Team. The watch was created in a limited edition of just 30 examples ever produced. Our example comes from the former Lotus F1 Team Principal, Mr. Gerard Lopez, adding extra flair to the timepiece.

Constructed of NTPT carbon, the lightweight chronograph wristwatch features a G-Force sensor that is specifically designed to withstand the forces Formula 1 drivers endure in the cockpit of a race car, regularly up to 5 G's as they accelerate beyond 200 mph. The watch is able to measure the range of G’s that the driver is under during deceleration. Similar to a racecar, the watch also has an indicator that illustrates when the movement is in the winding, neutral, or hand-settting position.

Under the hood (if you will), is an over 500 piece mechanical movement made of grade 5 titanium. Much like the driver, the watch needs to function with a high level of accuracy under these conditions. It is imperative that the functions do not become compromised while operating under their forces.

Offered with its original presentation box, warranty papers and travel case, lot 374 is also accompanied with a letter from Mr. Gerard Lopez, the former Lotus F1 Team Principal.
