The Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse, introduced in 1968, immediately captivated attention with its bold shape and glamorous proportions, rooted in the ancient Greek “golden section” ratio of 1:1.6181, considered the purest expression of harmonious design. Its instant success led to various iterations, each showcasing the brand's mastery of aesthetic balance. Launched in 1976, reference 3930 was the first Ellipse to feature t-bar lugs and a quartz movement. Originally marketed as a men’s watch, the 3930 eventually gained popularity as a ladies' timepiece before its discontinuation in the late 1980s. Rumor has it that, despite being featured in Patek Philippe's sales catalogues, the stainless steel models were primarily lent to clients while their watches were serviced or given as rewards to deserving employees. The current example is in excellent condition, preserving the legacy of this unique chapter in Patek Philippe's history.
