一九七九年，吳冠中應邀到重慶講學，創作不少以當地風貌為材之作品，期間亦至川北如達縣、大竹河、大巴山等地寫生。本幅於〈吳冠中國畫選〉註名畫題「泉水」，副題「川北小景」，即寫於是時。
