The Adele Bergreen Valentino Couture Collection, ex-lot 28, Hindman, 9th December 2015.

Adele Bergreen was Valentino's friend and lawyer. Born in 1922, she graduated from Vassar College in 1944. Adele Bergreen (née Gabel) attended Yale Law School and became the first woman to graduate from the program. Following her time at Yale, Adele met and married Morris Bergreen. Together they started a family and opened the law firm Bergreen & Bergreen in the early 1950s. By the 1960s, the firm had expanded into Italy, and, during this time, Bergreen met and began representing Valentino Garavani. Following her death in 2015, her collection of over 200 pieces of Valentino haute couture and ready-to-wear was auctioned, the largest ever collection known to exist.
