Alex Morgan is one of the brightest stars of American soccer and was a key member of a dominant US Women’s National Team that held the FIFA world ranking’s top spot nearly uninterrupted for over a decade. Even more, Morgan is one of the most important female athletes of her generation.

Morgan, the lead striker for two FIFA Women’s World Cup champions, is among the 10 most tenured members of the USWNT and ranks fifth in goals scored for the American women. A cross-cultural icon of the women’s game, she has graced the cover of the EA FIFA video game franchise and twice been named to Time’s 100 Most Influential People. Throughout her career, Morgan has used her platform to proudly advocate for the development of female athletics.

The offered example was produced as part of the 2020 Upper Deck Goodwin Champions set, specifically the 2003-04 Exquisite Collection Rookie Autograph Patch Tribute subset. Befitting the remarkable legacy of Morgan’s career, the Exquisite Rookie Autograph Tribute pays homage to the design from the legendary 2003-04 Exquisite Collection set that most notably featured rookie autographs from LeBron James as well as signatures from stars such as Michael Jordan. In the 2020 set, itself a call back to 19th century card design, the super striker joins other timeless modern stars such as Joe Burrow and teammate Megan Rapinoe. The front of the card is stamped “13/99,” serendipitously matching Morgan's number through much of her Team USA career, to represent its position in the print run and features memorabilia that is guaranteed by Upper Deck as having been worn by Alex Morgan.

This card has been authenticated and deemed to be in Gem Mint condition, receiving a grade of 10 from Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA). At the time of cataloging, it is the only print among the 99 produced and 14 received by PSA to be graded a 10.

The PSA certificate number for this card is: 63688273.

Going Deeper - Alex Morgan

Alex Morgan has been a prominent figure in American soccer since the very beginning of her professional career.

In 2011, after winning the Coast Soccer League U-16 Championship with her club Cypress Elite and leading the California Golden Bears to four straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament between 2007 and 2010, Morgan was drafted first overall in the Women’s Professional Soccer draft by the Western New York Flash.

On the club side, Alex has always been at the forefront of big moments for the women’s professional game. In 2013, Morgan joined Portland Thorns FC in the inaugural season of the National Women’s Soccer League and was an instant star. She was the team’s point leader and joint scoring leader while driving the club to the first championship in league history. A few years later, Morgan made a substantial move to Lyon and proved herself on the European stage. In a staggering run in the French Cup, she scored a hat-trick against Rodez to put Lyon in the semifinal and then scored four goals, including three in 10 minutes, to help put Lyon in the final, where they eventually emerged victorious. A champion in many arenas, she added a UEFA Women’s Champions League trophy to her resume in 2017.

Sparkling as her club tenure is, Morgan’s lasting memory is forged in her various international successes. Shortly after college, she made her FIFA Women’s World Cup debut, and showed that she belonged by appearing in five matches and scoring twice including once in the Final. In the process, she became the first player to ever record a goal and an assist in a World Cup final, assisting on a 104th minute header. After taking home gold at the 2012 London Olympics, thanks in large part to a 123rd minute goal in the semis, Morgan led the Americans to their third World Cup victory with clutch showings in the Round of 16 and Semi-Final.

Four years later, Morgan saw perhaps her best World Cup performance. Scoring six goals, including five in the record-setting 13-0 U.S. win over Thailand, in the tournament Morgan earned her third World Cup title and was awarded the Silver Boot.

In years since, Morgan has continued to represent USA soccer and helped San Diego Wave FC win their first Challenge Cup in 2024. Over her career, Morgan has made countless appearances on television, became one of the first women’s soccer players to appear on the cover of FIFA video games, and has won countless endorsements. In her words, "I would like to be remembered for carving a path for the next generation of young girls, for being a good reflection of the community that I live in." On September 8th, 2024 Morgan played in her 150th and final professional match, stepping away from the game having made as substantial an impact as any American woman.
