A coveted piece for Kobe collectors worldwide, this card represents a shift into the contemporary age of the basketball hobby.

An 18-time All-Star, 15-time All-NBA honoree, and Oscar recipient, the “Black Mamba” effectively defined basketball culture across three different decades. He led dynasties across multiple phases of his career and walked off the court for the last time as the most tenured and prolific scoring Laker of all time.

Bryant’s 1-of-1 Logoman Tag is perhaps the most desired card from the inaugural 2009-10 set of Panini Playoff National Treasures. Featuring a game-worn logoman tag as well as an on-card autograph, the card commemorates Kobe’s fifth championship season and was produced in the midst of a dramatic renaissance in his legendary career, as well as at the start of a new era in basketball cards.

After dominating the turn of the millennium and claiming three titles alongside Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe’s Lakers found tougher sledding once the big man left for Miami in 2004. Bryant claimed back-to-back scoring titles while receiving All-NBA and All-Star honors, but the Lakers would go three straight seasons without a playoff series victory.

In 2007-08, Kobe, surrounded by the returning Derek Fisher and midseason trade acquisition Pau Gasol, would hit a new level. Bryant earned his first and only career MVP award while carrying LA back to the NBA Finals. Despite falling in six games to the “Big 3” Boston Celtics, Bryant came back the next season and led the 65-17 Lakers to redemption and a 15th NBA championship by scoring over 32 points per game in the Finals. At long last a Finals MVP, he didn’t rest on his laurels and pushed his side to victory in the 2010 Finals, one of basketball’s most memorable championship matchups. Averaging over 28 points and 8 rebounds per game in a phenomenal seven-game series, Kobe once more earned Finals MVP as the Lakers avenged their prior defeat against Boston. By the time this card was produced, Bryant had firmly staked his claim as possibly the greatest Laker of all time.

Since bursting onto the scene with masterpieces such as this, Panini’s National Treasures has been among the top products in the hobby and produces some of the most valuable cards on the market on an annual basis. In January 2009, Panini signed a deal that would grant them the exclusive license to produce NBA trading cards that coming October. Kobe Bryant was the first major NBA superstar to sign an exclusive deal with the basketball hobby newcomers.

This card has been authenticated and deemed to be in Mint condition, receiving a grade of 9 from Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA). The autograph was graded and received a 10 from PSA/DNA. These marks reflect the pristine quality of the card and autograph, and stand as an achievement considering the thickness of the card stock. Additionally, the back of the card is stamped “1/1” to emphasize its unduplicated nature and adorned with a “KB 24” sticker that Bryant used to certify his authentic autographs with Panini.

The PSA certificate number for this card is: 63256486.

Going Deeper - Kobe Bryant

The Black Mamba

After three consecutive Laker championships from 2000-2002, the legendary tandem of Kobe and Shaquille O’Neal was disbanded when Shaq was dealt to the Miami Heat in 2004. With Kobe firmly in the driver's seat of the Lakers offense, he quickly established himself as one of the premier scorers the game has ever seen.

Between 2005 and the end of his career, Kobe put on a plethora of jaw-dropping scoring displays: 62 points against the Mavericks, 81 points against the Raptors (2nd all-time in NBA history) 55 here, 60 there. It seemed that any night could provide NBA fans with a dominant performance – a scoring clinic.

Kobe won back-to-back scoring titles in 2005-06 and 2006-07 and achieved NBA League MVP honors in the 2007-08 season, the only regular season MVP of his career. After being joined by Pau Gasol, Kobe led the Lakers to three consecutive NBA Finals appearances (2008, 2009, 2010) and two NBA championships (2009 and 2010), earning Finals MVP honors on both occasions.

Kobe ended his historic career with one last shining moment in 2016. In his final game in the NBA, a 37-year old Bryant willed the Lakers to a come-from-behind victory, scoring 60 points and hitting the game-winning shot in the process. The performance was surreal, the perfect bow on the gift that was watching Kobe play. A nod to the basketball greats, a demonstration of a love for the game, deep-rooted and palpable.

In 2021, Kobe Bryant was posthumously inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. The Lakers organization retired both numbers he wore during his career, 24 and 8.

Naming Convention Note:

“2009-10 Playoff National Treasures Century Material Signature Logoman 1/1” cards like this for other players have appeared on the PSA pop report under two headings: “2009 Playoff National Treasures” and “2009 Playoff National Treasures Century.” The naming convention has changed between the two: Under “2009 Playoff National Treasures” this card is referred to as a “Century Material NBA Tag Signature 1/1” whereas under “2009 Playoff National Treasures Century” similar cards for other players have been called “Century Material Signature NBA Logoman 1/1.” To avoid what we have determined to be unnecessary risk, we have decided to leave the card in its original PSA casing.
