comprising a realistically rendered hen and six chicks, the hen containing a removable liner and basket for six eggs, the lower half of each chick containing an egg cup, the upper half of each chick serving as a shaker for salt or pepper, all with gilt interiors, marked throughout, the body of hen engraved 19 RUE MONSIGNY ED MORGAN PARIS. Per the note on a diamond brooch offered recently at Drouot, Edgar Morgan was an important but largely forgotten figure in late 19th century Parisian jewelry. His address on the rue Monsigny was that given when he registered his mark in 1879, but by 1886 he had moved to the more fashionable rue de la Paix.
