The Boscoreale Treasure was discovered in during excavations at a Roman Villa on the outskirts of Pompeii in 1895. It consists of 109 items of silverware as well as gold coins and jewellery, the majority of which is now on display in the Louvre, Paris.
Heliotypes of Haek & Hourdequin's reproductions were used to illustrated Villefosse, Le Trésor D'Argenterie de Boscoreale Près de Pompei, Paris 1895. In the foreword to the work Haek wrote:
'We add heliotype reproductions of the main pieces made from the facsimiles produced in our workshops. The models were established in the presence of the originals from the Louvre by Mr. Defer, sculptor, our collaborator.'
