Description

Leon Trotsky

Autograph letter signed ("Trotsky"), in German, to Rudolf Hilferding in Berlin

informing him that he has finished his article on Tscherewanin's book, noting that it was very long and written in Russian, suggesting that it might be better for [the socialist journal] Die Neue Zeit than [the socialist newspaper] Vorwärts, observing too that in the translation there will be a second article by him for Die Neue Zeit on the Third Duma; in the second half of the letter Trotsky tells Hilferding that he has been very busy and productive of late, stating that he will be going to Café Central the following day, regretting though that he will not be there, telling him that he would like to give every member of the Social-Democratic Party a copy of a recent brochure on parliamentarianism that he has received, adding that he liked a second one on production very much, and providing him with his new Vienna address ("Bronstein, Sieveringerstr. 19 Wien XIX")

"...In der Übersetzung befindet sich aber ein anderer Artikel von mir für die N.Z. (über die dritte Düme). Ich werde Dir jedenfalls den Artikel über Tsch. senden, und Du wirst schon selbst entscheiden, wohin er gehört. -

Die letzte Zeit arbeite ich sehr fleissig und produktiv..."

2 pages, oblong 8vo (c.14 x 9cm), on a correspondence card, with a newspaper cutting from the New York Times on the death of Trotsky, the letter postmarked Vienna, 30 May 1908, some light creasing

A good letter by Trotsky to Rudolf Hilferding (1877-1941), a leading figure in the history of European socialism in the first half of the twentieth century.
