285 x 251mm. (frame 556 x 502mm.), watercolour, SIGNED BY THE ARTIST TO LOWER RIGHT, mounted, framed and glazed, frame slightly bumped


Original watercolour illustration produced for the planned, but unpublished series of American Weekly covers, 'The Book of Proverbs', illustrating Proverbs 6:24.


Whilst producing his series watercolours to illustrate 'The Book of Proverbs' for American Weekly, Dulac hear that they would not commit to any further magazine covers beyond The Arabian Nights. At this point only four of the proverbs had been completed, including 'Keep thee from evil women' (see lot 289), and 'Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith'.
