Ordini, e statuti dell'Accademia del disegno de' pittori, scultori, e architetti di Roma, sotto il titolo, e padrocinio di S. Luca, corretti, accresciuti, e confermati sotto gli auspizi del Santissimo Padre Clemente XI P.O.M. Palestrina: Stamperia Barberina, 1716


The statutes of the preeminent art academy of Rome, founded in 1593, were first printed in 1607; this version was printed in the town of Palestrina at the press of Cardinal Francesco Barberini, whose great uncle of the same name had been patron of the academy. The final two pages contain the names of the academicians.


4to (260 x 182 mm). Roman type, 33 lines. collation: π2 A-M4: 50 leaves (last leaf blank). Woodcut device of the Academy on title-page with a blue wash colouring, woodcut initials and headpieces. (Staining to upper margin throughout.)


provenance: Italian library label on inside front cover (mostly torn away). acquisition: Purchased in 2018 in New York from Il Polifilo, Milan.


binding: Contemporary vellum gilt (264 x 194 mm), gilt edges. (Binding slightly soiled, in particular along top edges.)
