This volume contains only the Aeneid from a three-part edition of the works of Vergil published by Giunta, a reprint of their 1519 edition. The illustrations are based on those of Johann Grüninger's 1502 edition of Vergil (lot 1233).
Folio (295 x 210 mm). Roman type, 76 lines plus headlines, commentary in 2 columns. collation: ++6 A-Z8 AA-NN8: 294 leaves (NN8 blank). Woodcut initials, 70 woodcut illustrations, early manuscript annotations in an unidentified hand. (Marginal dampstaining, slight browning, small tears to foot of N2, N8, KK1 and MM4-8, fore-edge tear to K8 without loss of text, repaired fore-edge tear to P6, tear to foot of MM7 with loss of text, small holes to B2 and O1 with slight loss of text, larger waterstains on A3v, GG2, and NN2-end slightly affecting text, small scattered ink stains to A8, B3, C1, G6, M1, M4-5, N1, S1v, T3-4, AA4, GG6, LL6, MM1, MM5-6, worming to head of O6-Q5 and foot of C5-C8, repaired wormholes to D1-E2.)
