Acquired from Terence McInerney, New York, September 1996

Two comparable paintings on cloth depicting avatars of Vishnu and a devotee, probably from the same series as the present lot, sold at Christie’s, London, 12 June 2014, lots 157-8. Two late eighteenth century works from Andhra Pradesh, painted in a similar format on paper depicting Hindu deities, sold recently in these Rooms, 27 October 2021, lot 158.
