Property from a Private American Collection
Kawase Hasui (1883-1957)
Two woodblock prints
Showa period, 20th century
each a woodblock print, signed Hasui, sealed Kawase, both with publisher's circular seal to lower left corner Watanabe (Watanabe Shozaburo), and comprising:
- Chion Temple in Kyoto (Kyoto Chion-in), from the series Collected Views of Japan II, Kansai Edition (Nihon fukei shu II Kansai hen), titled in the bottom margin as above, dated Showa hachinen hachigatsu saku (made in August 1933)
1933
- The Village of Kanago in Ibaraki Prefecture (Kanagomura, Ibaraki ken), titled in the left margin as above, dated Showa nijukyunen saku (made in 1954)
Vertical oban: 38.7 x 26 cm., 14½ x 10¼ in. (the first)
Horizontal oban: 26.7 x 39.2 cm., 10½ x 15½ in. (the second)
