In the late 1930s, Alexander Calder made Georgia O'Keeffe a brass brooch that spelled out the first two letters of her last name.  O’Keeffe preferred to wear the brooch with the letters oriented vertically, with the sideways K suspended below the O.  When worn in this orientation, O'Keeffe liked that the pin "read more like one of her own organic abstractions, a stylized plant form, rather than her initials" (Wanda Corn, Georgia O'Keeffe: Living Modern, p. 126).  O’Keeffe is pictured wearing the pin (or its copy) in numerous portraits, most notably the Ansel Adams photograph offered here.
