An Attic Black-figured Neck Amphora

circa 520-500 B.C.


painted in front with a draped maenad dancing between two nude satyrs, dotted vines in the field, and in back with a charioteer holding a goad and driving a quadriga, a painted inscription in the field reading ho pais kalos, rays and linked lotus buds above the foot, palmettes in the handle zones, tongues on the shoulder, linked palmettes with dots on the neck, the details in added red and white.

Height 25.5 cm.
