Description

Old Thompson 11 Year Old 100 Proof

Distilled in Fall 1916, bottled in Fall 1926, ullage: low shoulder

Old Thompson was a flagship label of the Glenmore Distillery and named for its owner, James Thompson. Before Prohibition, Glenmore was among the best-known and -admired distilleries in Kentucky, in part thanks to its manager, Harry S. Barton, who happened to be Thompson’s brother in law. During Prohibition, Glenmore received a license to sell medicinal whiskey, which is reflected in this 11-year-old, 100-proof example: the phrase “For Medicinal Purposes Only” is incorporated into its logo on the front label, while a statement about the penalty for unauthorized use, on the back label, is attested to by Barton himself.
