Although Julian Van Winkle II lost control of the famed Stitzel-Weller Distillery in 1972, he was allowed two consolation prizes: the Old Rip Van Winkle and Old Weller labels, and access to his former distillery’s aging whiskey. He immediately started his own company, bottling Stitzel-Weller whiskey, including this 7-year-old, 107 proof Old Rip Van Winkle. This bottle bears all the markings of the Van Winkle-era Stitzel-Weller products.
