Description

Old Overholt Rye Whiskey

Ullage: low shoulder, label damaged, scraped and torn

This is a whiskey is thought to have drawn from the personal collection of the financier Andrew Mellon, who owned the Old Overholt Distillery for a time in the early 20th century. After Prohibition Mellon’s nephew Richard King Mellon had the whiskey rebottled, with simple labels stating its vintage – in this case, 1908. The whiskey remained in the Mellon family until the death of Richard Mellon Scaife, who as an heir to the family fortune had inherited several cases of it, then left it to his estate to sell. The bottles have since become rare collector’s items, as valued for their place in history as they are for their taste.
