Though it is often less sought after than some other labels from the 1970s, Old Forester is the quintessence of dusty bourbon: silky and rich, with layers of caramel sweetness rarely found in more modern whiskeys. Distilled in the spring of 1971 and bottled in the fall of 1976, it is a true bottled-in-bond bourbon, at a time when most distilleries were dropping proof levels to match changing consumer tastes. This is one collectible bottle that should not go unopened.
