Description

Old Fitzgerald 100 Proof

Distilled Spring 1917, bottled Spring 1929, ullage: low shoulder

Although the Old Fitzgerald label is best associated with the Stitzel-Weller Distillery, the whiskey in this particular bottle was distilled by Wright and Taylor, a Louisville distillery that closed in 1919, just ahead of Prohibition. Julian “Pappy” Van Winkle purchased the Old Fitzgerald brand during the 1920s, and began bottling whiskey under that label, using barrels acquired from other distilleries and a medicinal whiskey license – among them this example, distilled in 1917 and bottled in 1929.

1 pint (oc)
