From the Collection of Princess Maria Immaculata of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Archduchess of Austria-Tuscany (1844–1899)

Natural pearl, ruby and diamond bracelet, Köchert, circa 1886

The clasp composed of a pear-shaped ruby within a border of circular-cut diamonds, on a row of round to roundish natural pearls measuring approximately from 6.60 to 6.25mm, length approximately 195mm, unsigned, inscribed 47, 24, 23, 20, 17, 15, 121/2, 8, 61/2 and 21/2, fitted case stamped Köchert.

Accompanied by SSEF report no. 131221, stating that the ruby is of Burmese origin, with no indications of heating, the twenty-five pearls were found to be natural, saltwater.

Archduke Karl Salvator of Austria-Tuscany (1839-1892)

Princess Maria Immaculata of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Archduchess of Austria-Tuscany (1844-1899)

Archduchess Maria Immaculata of Austria-Tuscany, Duchess of Württemberg (1878-1868)

This bracelet was given by Archduke Karl Salvator of Austria-Tuscany (1839-1892) to his wife Princess Maria Immaculata of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Archduchess of Austria-Tuscany (1844-1899) on the occasion of their silver wedding anniversary celebrated on 19 September 1886. The twenty-five pearls represent twenty-five years of marriage. The nine diamonds represent the nine living children the couple had in 1886, while the ruby represents Archduke Karl Salvator. The mount of the ruby is inscribed 47 representing the age of Archduke Karl Salvator, whereas the mounts of the diamonds are inscribed with the ages of the children: 24, 23, 20, 17, 15, 121/2, 8, 61/2 and 21/2 respectively. Furthermore, these numbers likely correspond to the weights of the stones in points. The fitted case by Köchert is stamped with the dates '1861 - 19. SETTEMBRE - 1886' to mark both their wedding in 1861 and their silver wedding anniversary in 1886. The Italian settembre was probably chosen in homage to the couple's Italian roots.
