Attractive sapphire, ruby and diamond necklace, late 19th century


Designed as a slightly graduated fringe, each pendant supported from a gold loop-in-loop chain, collet-set with oval, cushion- and pear-shaped sapphires and rubies, enhanced with collet-set cushion-shaped diamonds, length approximately 370mm.

Princess Eudoxia of Bulgaria (1898-1985)

This necklace was made for Princess Maria Pia of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, Duchess of Parma (1849-1882) using stones which were heirlooms from her Neapolitan family. Her daughter Princess Marie Louise of Bourbon-Parma, Princess Consort of Bulgaria (1870-1899) in turn inherited the necklace and left it to her daughter Princess Eudoxia of Bulgaria (1898-1985).
